The sound of static fills my head … and the future is to be determined

ABOUT

Started back in the early 2000's, this Dysfunctional Duo carved a name for themselves as being the only industrial/gothrock band in their scene, attracting fans that felt stuck between metal and punk shows. After a hiatus, both musicians learned more about their craft. Now Ruse Of Silence is back with a vengeance, and they're not so silent anymore. With the debut of their first cleanly recorded E.P., this train of noise is going ahead full-steam, so keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times, screw the seatbelts and get ready for a ride!

Sean
Sean
Guitar · Bass · Vocals · Synth

Sean handles guitar, bass, vocals, and minimal synth work, bringing a heavy, dark edge to the band's sound. Influenced by the crushing riffs of Black Sabbath, the brooding atmosphere of Type O Negative, the raw energy of the Danzig-era Misfits, and the bleak intensity of gothic and black metal, Sean originally picked up an instrument with one simple goal: to play Sabbath. That foundation still drives his approach today — slow, heavy riffs layered with dark atmosphere, songwriting instincts, and just enough chaos to keep things unpredictable.

Known for noisy textures, raw vocals, and a wall of feedback, Sean builds the band's sonic backbone with a Les Paul LTD running through an EVH 5150 pedal and a healthy disregard for silence. When he's not shaping riffs or pushing songs into darker territory, Sean is likely digging through horror films or expanding his comic collection, both of which bleed naturally into the band's ominous tone and aesthetic.

Jonathan
Jonathan
Synths · Programming · Production · Vocals

Jonathan handles synths, programming, production, and vocals, building the rhythmic and atmospheric backbone of the band's sound. Drawing from industrial pioneers like Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, and Sister Machine Gun — with an unexpected soft spot for blues — his approach blends mechanical precision with gritty texture. Jonathan first learned piano when he was younger and was known to drift toward whatever piano was nearby at parties, but it wasn't until after high school, when he picked up a cheap MIDI synth, that he started seriously exploring electronic music and sound design.

In the band, Jonathan focuses on rhythm programming, sound design, experimental noise, and both clean and heavily processed vocals. He gravitates toward sounds that feel imperfect — whether it's digital glitch artifacts or running tracks through worn tape for grit and character. A Nord Lead 3 pushed through distortion pedals is a frequent centerpiece of his setup, alongside Eurorack modules used to create noise and drum loops that barely resemble traditional drums. Outside the studio, Jonathan is a dedicated tinkerer and builder who enjoys exploring hardware, experimenting with gear, and finding new ways to bend machines into unexpected sounds.
